A Quick Update in 2020

Greg on a Train Back to Boston TM Blast

My last blog post came on December 15th, 2020, which was about hitting a new milestone in traffic for my niche website, The Stadium Reviews. Since that last blog post, I’ve been busier than, but I felt like a blog post highlighting new things would be interesting. With TM Blast approaching three years in business, I have to take a step back and illustrate what I’ve been doing for the past few months. Below are some of the highlights since my last post for my business, TM Blast.

Helping my Friend with his Real Estate Website

One small project that I’m doing is helping my friend grow his real estate business. It’s a side project for him, so I’ve been assisting with some SEO suggestions and tracking recommendations. The website is new, so there is nothing to share, but he should see results anywhere between 3-6 months of working together.

Speaking at BostonWP

In February 2020, I was a guest speaker around WordPress and SEO here in Boston, Massachusetts. The presentation was about an hour, and you can find the video below. In addition to the video presentation, you can find the actual slides below.

Getting a New Client

I have a new PPC / SEO client out in NYC for immigration exams. It’s a brand new field that has taken a lot of my time, but I feel good about the results already. Their area is in a competitive niche in New York City, but we are already moving up well within Google for rankings. Today, March 6th, was the launch of their Google Ads, so lots of exciting changes happening.

Improving the CPA and CPC for a Current Client in PPC

Outside of the new client, I’m delivering reliable results for an existing client in their PPC strategy. Since launching their ads in December, I’ve been able to lower the CPC and CPA MoM. I’ve spent a lot of time on this account, but the numbers are finally paying off as you can see below.

Working on TM Blast Core Keyword Rankings

Taking on new clients has been impressive, but TM Blast has had no attention for some time. Take not blogging for three months as a great example of my lack of awareness. TM Blast has taken a backseat with SEO, but I’ve been working since late January on improving my non-brand keyword rankings to drive more leads to my business.  It’s my fault that the rankings were dropping in Google, but it just shows that SEO is not a one and done thing.

More Free SEO Audits + Coaching Sessions

Improving the core keyword rankings for TM Blast has brought in more leads. A lead is when someone is looking for a Free SEO Analysis of their site. Each audit takes me about 1-2 hours to complete, and I’ve done three so far in 2020 for potential new clients. One of those free audits got me a new client, so it’s advantageous for me to do a great job to get a new client potentially. I also present the findings to potential clients, so total time could be three hours or more out of my work schedule.

On top of the Free SEO Audits, I’ve been testing my format (for free in January) of the SEO Workshop. I’ve had five Free Coaching sessions to nail my delivery and approach. During the five free sessions (each being one hour), I’ve seen ways to improve my service and deliver a robust service to paying customers in the future.

Niche Website Frustration

This post has been overwhelmingly good news, but now it’s time for some frustration. The Stadium Reviews has lost organic traffic with Google removing some of my answer box answers since January. I had very ambitious goals for this website, but I’m pacing below to where I want to be. Ideally, I want to hit 5k in monthly organic traffic in April. I’ve spent a lot of time writing content, fixing technical errors, and more on this site, but I have very little to show for it now. This website, I’m assuming, will become profitable in the next year and a half, but right now it’s frustrating with where I am at the moment.

Speaking Again in April

In April, I’ll be speaking in Cambridge, Massachusetts, around SEO and WordPress. The presentation will be the same that I gave at BostonWP, but to a new audience. I’m not sure how many people will be at this venue, but my last speech had 30 guests.

Next Post and Next Steps

I’m not sure when my next blog post will be, but that is a good thing! SEO and PPC are something I enjoy a lot, so I can’t complain when I’m working. I hope to deliver an excellent presentation in April and maybe get another client from that too. All in all, though, I’m happy with my business and feel like 2020 will be better than 2019.
